The method

First you decide, then you understand why

Classic training hands you the theory and tests you at the end. Here the order is the one you work in: the case arrives, you decide with what you can see, and the reasoning lands exactly when you need it.

1. The case, with its image

A real wound, photographed and annotated, with the context you would have in the consulting room: mechanism, hours since injury, comorbidity and the material at hand.

2. You decide

Four plausible options, not three absurd ones and an obvious answer. Close, do not close, refer or choose the dressing — the same call you make in front of the patient.

3. Reasoned correction

Instantly: why the right answer is right and which concrete mistake hides behind each distractor. No punishment for getting it wrong — that is when you learn most.

4. What you take away

Every case closes with one idea you can use at the bedside: the criterion, the limit of your scope of practice and the red flag that forces a referral.

Judgement before technique

The theory does not disappear, it is reordered: short doses, after the decision, always anchored to a case you have already seen.

For nurses in primary care, emergency departments and outpatient clinics; for family-medicine residents; for undergraduates who want to arrive at placement with trained hands; and for emergency staff who must decide quickly which wound is closed, which is referred and which is left alone.

It does not replace in-person training or clinical supervision: it complements, structures and assesses it.

The reference is GNEAUPP and EPUAP/NPIAP

We do not invent a classification of our own. Pressure injuries are categorised exactly as GNEAUPP categorises them in Technical Document nº II and as the EPUAP/NPIAP/PPPIA panel does in its 2019 international guideline, and we use their terminology unchanged.

  • Category/Stage I to IV, unstageable and deep tissue injury, with the panel’s own definitions.
  • Dependency-related lesions (LRD): pressure, moisture-associated (MASD/LESCAH), friction and combined.
  • Conservative recommendation language: what the guideline recommends, and nothing beyond it.

Reviewed clinical content

Every technique rests on current practice guidelines and on the GNEAUPP and EPUAP wound classification. Where the evidence is debatable, we say so.

Explicit referral criteria

Before each technique you learn its limit: which wound must not be closed, which one is referred and which patient falls outside your scope of practice.

Licensed, credited images

All the clinical photography we use is public domain or freely licensed, credited one by one on the credits page.

Important notice. This document is a certificate of completion issued by SuturaLab after finishing an online course and passing its final exam. It is not an official healthcare accreditation: it is not an academic qualification, it does not authorise professional practice, it carries no continuing-education credits (CME/CPD) and it does not replace the supervised in-person training required by each country’s regulations. The techniques described must be practised only within the holder’s own scope of practice and under the supervision their institution requires.

Frequent questions

Is the Esencial level really free?
Yes. Create your account and you get the whole level, with its tests and final exam. No card required.
Is the certificate an official healthcare accreditation?
No. It is a certificate of completion issued by SuturaLab. It grants no professional competence and does not replace degrees, registration or continuing-education accreditation.
Do I need materials to practise?
We recommend a suture pad, a needle holder, toothed forceps, scissors and practice thread. Each lesson states which materials to use.
Can I switch language mid-course?
Yes, with the header switcher. Your progress, marks and certificate are kept: only the language of the content changes.
Can I download the certificate?
Yes. Once you pass the final exam the certificate stays in your dashboard and you can download it as a PDF as often as you like. There is no public validation page: the document is yours and you decide who sees it.
What is the content based on?
On current clinical practice guidelines and on the GNEAUPP and EPUAP wound classification. The material is educational and does not replace your own institution’s protocols.
